What got me into MMOs

A Look into the past. It was in 2006 little, 14 years old,  Jenni was watching a German TV station named GIGA. Esports, gaming news and more gaming related stuff was broadcasted there. I watched a show, where gameplays of one game were shown for an hour, without commentary. I loved watching it. Well, I still love watching gameplays with and without commentary but well, back to the past. One day Guild Wars was on and caught my attention. Didn't realized it was an MMO at first. A few weeks later I bought Guild Wars on a Friday. Why do I remember that it was on a Friday, you may wonder. It's easy, my parents are divorced I spent the weeks at my mom's house and the weekends at my dad's house. My mom didn't had an internet flat rate back then and I only was able to install and update Guild Wars but not to play it, because I was afraid of a high internet bill. So I just waited until my dad fetched me, he already had an internet flat rate. Arrived at my dad's house I went right down to the cellar, where the PC was standing and downloaded and installed Guild Wars. I remember being excited and I couldn't wait for the download to be done. You know the internet speed back then was even worse and installing all those updates took like, I don't know, 2 hours at least.

But then it was finally done. Loggin in for the first time. Creating my first character. A little monk, Jen Personal Tenshi, which I really loved, starting from the beginning until the end. Being a Monk in Guild Wars was a guarantee for a group and wasn't that hard to level, because there were only 20 levels. I played my Monk through the first campaign Prophecies. Got the second campaign, Factions, a few weeks later and played through it. Leveled some other characters to level 20 in 3 hours, but always came back to my Monk. I learned how to farm solo and duo with and completed the next two campaigns, Nightfall and Eye of the North, as soon as they came out. I played Guild Wars for hours and hours. With the time I got into GvG (Guild versus Guild) and other PvP stuff. I even met my first boyfriend in Guild Wars.. Kinda embarrassing, but at least we had the same interests. And he was only living 10 minutes away from me. But now back to the MMOs.

Like every game, even Guild Wars got boring for me after I achieved everything. I started waiting for Guild Wars 2, which was already announced when I stopped playing. Guild Was 2 came out in 2012 and I stopped playing Guild Wars in 2009.

I started checking out some F2P MMOs, like Flyff, Fiesta and Marple Story. I played Perfect World, which had amazing graphics back then, but none of those games could keep me playing as long, as Guild Wars.
I started playing TERA, where I really loved the action combat system and the graphics. At the end of 2013 I started playing Guild Wars 2. But even those two great games weren't able to enthral me like Guild Wars. Don't get me wrong I loved playing Tera and Guild Wars 2 and even the F2P MMOs were fun, but none of them has kept in front of my PC for so long like Guild Wars. I still love playing MMOs and I always watch out for new ones. Currently I have a small addiction to ArcheAge and I'm looking forward to Black Desert Online.

Writing this post I felt a bit the way, I felt when I first logged in to Guild Wars. All those memories and feelings came back to my mind. And I start feeling sad, because I will never have THAT feeling of excitement and curiosity again. Sure I'm always curios about new games MMO or not, but I will never ever feel the way, like I felt back then.
