Today was the release of Fantasy Life by Level-5, the developer of the Professor Layton series and Ni no Kuni. I really was waiting for the release of Fantasy Life since I saw it in the Nintendo eShop. After the first trailer, the graphics and the game concept really got me. So, when I was finally able to download it, this morning, I got a bit excited. As you can read in my
Looking forward to.. post I had pretty big expectations and still was a bit worried, that they may not be satisfied. After the download was finished I also bought the DLC for 7,99€.
Like in many RPGs you start creating your character and choose his "life". There are 12 life classes available. I decided to start with a Paladin. I would describe the character creation menu as a cuter version of the Mii-Maker. You have many option to personalize your character. And later in game you can change the Hairstyle at Miss Florinas cottage on the West Grassy Plains.
Now, that Jenhyu, the Paladin, was finished the game begins. BOOM! Jenhyu falls out of her bed and wakes up the hard way. Now we get to know Pam. After a bit of talking, we have to check the mailbox outside of our little room. A letter from the King. we are invited to the castle, but only with our life licence. So we are heading to the guild office. where we get the licence. Later this is the place, where you change you life or can go on bounties and start multiplayer games with up to 3 party members.

While we are talking with the Guild Master, there are loud noises outside the office. Two criminals want to catch a talking butterfly. Brave as we are, we are helping the little butterfly, who is also heading to the castle. Arriving in the castle, a little problem comes up. We don't look fancy enough to get into the throne room and see the king. The guard tells us, that we need a bow tie or something similar. On our way back out we are now meeting the talking butterfly again. Who has problems getting in the castle. So the butterfly, whos name is Flutters has a great idea, he will be our bow tie. Now we can enter the throne room and meet the king. The king wishes us all the best. Flutter decides to stay with us, the beginning of a new friendship.

After the meeting with the King, we are now going to the Paladin Master. Every life class has its own master, where you learn the basic skills. Master Mustang sends us and a party member (I forgot her name) to Isobel, where we learn how to handle a sword. Afterwards we are going to Porthos, where we learn how to handle a shield.
Ready to fight, well at least ready to smash [A] we are now investigating. Someone is stealing all the apples from the trees. Our first quest is going on. Running around asking, some guards, if they saw something suspicious, we are finding the thieves really fast. Our first battle begins and is over in a minute or less. Sure it is easy. Bringing back the stolen apples to the merchant and heading back afterwards to the Paladin master.
Flutters wants to see our room now. Going back to our room, where Pam is already waiting for us. She was a bit worried, that might something happened to us. She gives us a chair, as a present for our room and tells us to stop by, if we want to buy a bigger room. After Pam is gone, Flutters tells us to check our "Bliss". With every "Bliss" level you can unlock new perks. like a bigger bag or having pets. We go to sleep and the basic tutorial and the first hour with Fantasy Life is over.
I played a bit into the next day to check the questing system and shops. There are challenges for every life class, where you get stars. "Flutter's Requests", where you get Bliss and "Other Requests", where you get Dosh, the money in Fantasy Life. There are many shops in the town area, where you can spend your Dosh for clothes, potions, cooking ingredients and more.
Conclusion
After playing Fantasy Life for an hour and a bit, I have to say, that I'm in love with the game since Paladin Jenhyu fell out of her bed and the first dialogue began. The characters have great personalities. Flutters reminds me a bit of Drippy from Ni no Kuni. The graphics are great and the world is so friendly and lively. For now it seems like you will have a lot of stuff to do and to discover. I didn't know, that you can decorate your room in Fantasy Life and was really surprised and happy, when I found out. The game just started and I hardly can keep my fingers away from my 3DS. I just want to discover the world, do quest, go on bounties and decorate my room now. And maybe buy some new clothes for my character. I think this game is a good mix between RPG and social simulation. Every fan of Ni no Kuni, cute RPGs, Animal Crossing or similar games should considers buying it.
Unfortunately, I can't say anything about the DLC and if it is worth buying it. Because the content is only available after you finished the main story.
