As mentioned in my August Favourites Post, I'm comparing my new Mario Island Party experience with my 1998 Mario Party experience. Unfortunately I haven't found my old Nintendo64 yet. Well, I thought, it will appear out of nowhere while moving. Maybe I should have looked through the old boxes a bit more. Christmas 1998, I got my Nintendo64 from my grandparents. With it I got Mario Party. I played this game quiet everyday with my mom or grandmother. It was really fun. Mostly because we were always losing against the NPCs. I used to play Peach, my mom Yoshi and my Grandmother Donkey Kong. I love to remember these afternoons playing Mario Party. Now it's more like, that I have nothing better to do and play it alone on my 3DS to kill some time. But I still play Peach, this didn't changed.
I love Mario Party, the new and the old one, because of its mini games and the range you get when you roll a number and land on a field where you get teleported to the beginning or something like that. Even now, it's still pretty hard for me to win a game, not the mini games, but winning the whole game. It is not impossible for me, but in 8 out of 10 games a NPC finishes first. Maybe it's just bad luck. Comparing both games I have to say, that I liked the old mini games and maps a bit more. In the new Mario Party Island Tour the Maps are varied and offer different gamestyles. In one map you don't have a dice, you have cards, with numbers, instead. It's a nice idea and you don't have to roll and roll and roll the dice on every map to finish it, every map is a little different.
I like the old Mario Party more, maybe it's just becuse of the memories I have with this one or it's the easiness many old games have. You didn't had games where you had to move the controller to the direction where you want to go, or different play styles on each board, no you were just rolling the dice and try to finish first and bash the buttons in the minigames. I like Mario Party Island Tour too and it's fun playing it to kill some time, but in my opinion the old Mario Party was just a tiny little bit better.
